House Moving

Today my parents got a new beach house.

Well, a new, used, beach house.

To make a long story short, they made a simple deal with someone who was thinking about tearing down a really nice house.

The deal is: “We’ll get the house out of your way, and spare you the cost of tearing it down.”

A great deal for both parties.

My parents received a free* house that needs little more than some new carpet, and the home owner didn’t have the expense and aggravation of tearing down a house.

*free- aside from the cost of taking it down, having it moved ten miles on the beach, put back up on new piles, new windows, doors, siding, roof, carpet. . .

Anyway, my parents then had to find a way to move the house 10 miles up the beach to their lot.

This is how they did it:

(I wasn’t able to make it; but my sister was sending picture messages of the progress :) )

There she goes, down the beach. . .

I am hoping to get more pictures later.

And of course go see it for myself, ASAP.

I will update you on the progress!

That is really cool Ashely… do your parents have an idea of what it’s going to cost them all-together to get the entire job done? That’s VERY neat!! And it looks wicked riding down the beach with it like that… the sky all stormy and the ocean slightly pissed looking!!

I don’t know exactly . . . I am not even sure they will know until it’s all said and done.

I think that the moving is about $40,000. I don’t what that includes.

I will find out more details and post more about it!

Daddy said he was hoping to do everything for less than $75k the moving cost him $27k (but he may have gotten a deal since he knows the man who owned the ‘house moving company’… once i figure out the name of the company i will post so they can have credit for moving it. It was an incredible experience, I can’t believe i just watched a 180,000 pound house get pulled 12 miles buy a single truck!
