It takes a strong stomach to own and manage rental property. . .

We recently had some rental turnover,  thankfully our former tenants cleaned the house and left everything in pretty good shape.

But like most people, they forgot to clean under the refrigerator. . .

When I pulled out the refrigerator I found what looked like a litter of Pomeranian puppies glued to the floor with maple syrup.  The picture doesn’t do it justice.

Behind Refrigerator

My rant of the day: Please, please, PLEASE pull your refrigerator out when you clean you kitchen floor!!  At least once a month! Or twice a year. . . at least! I don’t think people realize that refrigerators have wheels under them, so that even a very small woman can pull it out by herself!

When pulling it out be careful with the water line, that runs to the ice maker, if you pull that loose you will have water spraying all over your kitchen. Yes it has happened to me, and luckily the person who put the water line in my house put a nice water cut-off valve on the wall right behind the refrigerator, you may not be so lucky, beware.

And when you have your refrigerator pulled out, vacuum the dust out from around the motor. You may have to remove a cover, cardboard or metal,  from the bottom of your refrigerator to see the motor.  The dust is a fire hazzard.  I had a refrigerator catch on fire once, it isn’t pretty. . .

Anyway, after the attack of the Dyson and a half a bottle of 409 later, the floor is like brand new again.  Oh, and don’t tell Hank (the tile guy) that I used 409 on this floor, he’d have a fit.

According to Hank you should only use water and vinegar to clean tile.  I don’t think Hank has ever found a years worth of dog hair stuck to the tile with some kind of old syrup. . . vinegar wouldn’t cut it.

PS- This is not a good examples of the horrors that one can encounter when owning and managing rental property, I will go into that later. Oh, and by horror, I mean it has happened to me, it wasn’t enough to shy me away from rental property, and I am not sure it could be any worse.  So don’t worry!
