Garden Update – Last Week of June

Oops! I am a little behind on my garden update for this week!

We were in North Carolina on Sunday and Monday which is usually when I take my garden update pictures,

so I took pictures of my parent’s garden instead!

Huge squash and zucchini plants. . .

And over grown zucchini.

(The zucchini model is my Dad) :)

Large Zucchini

Look at these cucumber trellises. What a great idea!

Ryan and I were able to confiscate some of their zucchini, squash and cucumbers to bring back with us. :)

We also stopped by my grandparents house, and they gave us some very large turnips.

Big Turnips

We couldn’t wait to get back to compare them to our own:

(that little tiny thing you can barely see in Ryan’s right hand. . . yeah, that’s our turnip)

turnip comparisonWe asked Roy what was wrong with our turnips, he said,

“Those old people put more horse shit on their garden than we did!  I told you we needed more horse shit!”

I can not disagree with him.  Next year we will get more shh. . . manure.

Note: Roy and “those old people” are the same age. :)

This is our garden as of last night:

Everything is coming right along. We have baby peppers, cucumbers and tomatoes.

I cut what I think will be the last of the broccoli and finally got some squash,

we will be eating a lot of squash this week!

I just LOVE the pictures of your family’s garden. Isn’t it amazing that it seems the big veggies can only be grown back at home… We tried a garden here too in NJ, but it seems like nobody knows how to pile on the doo like the Currituck-ians!
